ByteDance has set a timeline for its self-developed next-generation server CPU project, aiming to complete the overall design by early 2027 and achieve mass production and large-scale internal deployment in the second half of 2027 to support its AI business expansion.

According to Odaily, three people familiar with the matter said an early version of the CPU has been tested in the company’s internal data centers since late last year.

The report said that driven by demand amid a shortage of computing power, the tape-out process node for the new chip could be brought forward.

The CPU is described as a key part of ByteDance’s broader in-house chip portfolio and is intended for building an AI infrastructure under the company’s control.

To speed up development and secure foundry capacity, ByteDance has partnered with Qualcomm on data center chips. Qualcomm operates a fabless model and uses TSMC for manufacturing, and the cooperation is expected to help ByteDance address tight supply of advanced chips.
