Zhipu recently released GLM-5.2, an open-weight AI model, and some researchers said it can match Anthropic’s Mythos model in certain vulnerability detection and cybersecurity use cases.
According to Jin10, U.S. tech outlets The Verge and The Wall Street Journal reported that while GLM still trails Anthropic and OpenAI models on broader, general-purpose tasks, it has shown strong performance in specific security-focused scenarios.
Semgrep data indicated that in some benchmark tests, GLM-5.2 outperformed Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 model released in May. Researchers also said that after receiving additional instructions, both Opus 4.8 and GLM-5.2 could be comparable to Mythos in their ability to find software vulnerabilities.
The reports noted that because GLM is an open-weight model, anyone can download it and run it on off-the-shelf hardware. This openness can provide flexibility and deeper access for advanced users, but it may also increase the risk of misuse by malicious actors.
