AI-generated short dramas have become the dominant format in China’s short-drama industry, with about 128,000 short dramas launched across the sector in the first quarter and AI-made titles accounting for more than 95%, according to 36Kr, citing figures provided by industry research firm DataEye’s Juchacha.
DataEye Juchacha Vice President Lin Qiwen said AI tools have cut production-side costs by about 90%, but traffic acquisition costs rose by more than 100% year-on-year, while revenue fell by more than 50%.
