About 2,500 seafarers from 115 vessels have been evacuated from the Strait of Hormuz since an evacuation plan began on June 23, International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Dominguez said on June 26, based on the organization’s preliminary tally.
According to Jin10, the International Maritime Organization announced on June 23 that it had launched an evacuation plan for seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz area.
The IMO recommended two routes: a northern corridor on the Iranian side of the strait and a southern corridor on the Omani side.
On June 25, the organization said a vessel was attacked that day in the Gulf of Oman and decided to suspend the evacuation operation for ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
International shipping data showed that after the IMO paused the evacuation operation, vessels still transited the Strait of Hormuz.
