Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would keep troops stationed in a “security zone” in southern Lebanon until Lebanon’s Hezbollah is fully disarmed and no longer poses a security threat to Israel.

According to Jin10, Netanyahu made the remarks in a televised address on the evening of June 26, saying representatives from Israel, Lebanon, and the United States signed a major working framework agreement that day in Washington, D.C.

Netanyahu reiterated that the agreement was a major achievement for Israel and said it delivered a heavy blow to Iran. He said Iran had attempted to use force to compel Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon, but Israel and the United States had sent a clear signal that Iran, Hezbollah, and any other armed groups had no place in Lebanon’s affairs.
