U.S. President Donald Trump said he would not sign a bill aimed at lowering housing costs and increasing housing supply after being asked about a temporarily canceled plan to sign the legislation.

According to Jin10, Trump made the remarks on June 24, saying he had previously stated he would not approve the bill and arguing that housing conditions were primarily driven by interest rates.

Trump said he had earned billions of dollars in the real estate industry and claimed he understood the sector better than anyone. He added that lowering interest rates was the key priority.

He also said he did not want to harm people who already own property, describing some homeowners as having obtained a valuable home for the first time and becoming wealthier as a result.
