A U.S. military F-15 fighter pilot who was shot down over Iran in April said he saw multiple Iranian drones circling and moving in a tightly coordinated formation that resembled a jellyfish, according to CNN.
According to Jin10, CNN cited four people familiar with the matter as saying the pilot recalled the scene before ejecting from the aircraft.
The report said the account has triggered an intense debate within the U.S. intelligence community that has not subsided.
Sources cited by CNN said that if the pilot’s description is accurate and he observed a formation moving in a coordinated way, it would represent a significant leap in Iran’s drone capabilities.
The sources said the pilot described several drones as appearing to be connected and moving as a single unit, with smaller drones positioned beneath a larger drone “like legs,” which he compared to “alien” technology.
