Ex-FCA policy insider flags ‘great divide’ in UK crypto ambition

Former FCA policymaker and Hedera vice president of global policy Isadora Arredondo said the U.K.’s push to become a crypto hub is being held back by a gap between policy ambition and how rules are implemented, according to CoinDesk, citing an interview in London. She said FCA delays reflected competing priorities including Brexit, COVID-19 and fallout from London Capital & Finance and the Woodford Fund, which sharpened a consumer-protection focus under CEO Nikhil Rathi. Arredondo said the FCA is more proactive with institutions than startups, and noted U.K. regulations are set to come into effect in October 2027.
