Citi said its follow-up on Macau table performance for June suggests gaming revenue typically slows in June regardless of whether there is a World Cup, according to Ming Pao.

Citi cited a high base effect from concerts by Jacky Cheung in the same period last year as an additional factor that could worsen the slowdown. While the bank said there were fewer “whales” in June, its analysts observed a gambler placing a HK$680,000 bet at the Signature Club at City of Dreams, indicating high-end customers remain willing to spend.

Citi said it is confident in a post-World Cup recovery in gaming revenue, and recommended building positions in Galaxy Entertainment (0027) and Sands China (1928) if their share prices weaken in the short term.
