SoftBank Group Chairman Masayoshi Son said at the company’s annual shareholders meeting on June 24 that UK chip designer Arm will evolve from a chip designer into a chip supplier and will directly participate in manufacturing, according to 36Kr. Son also said he expects the AI era to be “CPU-centric,” and argued Arm still has more than 10x growth potential.

Son additionally referenced SoftBank’s roughly JPY300 billion investment in Intel, saying it was criticized at the time but that mark-to-market gains based on market capitalization have now reached several trillion yen.
