Sonic Labs announced governance and operational changes on X, including extending the Fantom Opera network’s operations until at least the end of 2026. According to Odaily, the network had been scheduled to shut down by the end of this month, and its cross-chain bridge will continue to receive funding support during the extended period.
Sonic Labs said the decision to keep Fantom Opera running was adjusted based on community feedback.
The team also said it will remove the broad “Contributors” label and has disclosed a new leadership structure. Matt Visser was appointed chief executive officer, and Sonic Labs said he has a background in product management and financial restructuring, previously co-founding Squire.Law and leading Web3 product strategy.
Kosta Kourkoumelis was appointed chief operating officer. Sonic Labs said he has more than 20 years of experience in financial services and the digital asset industry and has been involved in ecosystem development since the Fantom ICO stage.
Previously, Andre Cronje announced his departure from the Sonic Labs board and said he will focus on technical research and development going forward.
