S&P Dow Jones Indices said on June 23 that Alphabet will be added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) before the market opens on June 29, replacing Verizon Communications, according to 36Kr. The index provider said the change reflects Verizon’s lower share price, which leaves it with about a 0.5% weight in the price-weighted DJIA.
Alphabet’s businesses span advertising, cloud infrastructure, AI, hardware, autonomous driving, health technology and media distribution, and its higher market value and share price are expected to make it a more representative member of the DJIA’s communication services sector.
Separately, Honeywell International is expected to complete the spin-off of Honeywell Aerospace on the same day. After the separation, the parent company will be renamed Honeywell Technology and will remain in the DJIA, while Honeywell Aerospace will not be included.
