France coach Didier Deschamps learned of his mother’s death on Tuesday morning and will miss Friday’s 2026 World Cup group-stage match against Norway, the French Football Federation announced. Deschamps will return home for the funeral and assistant Guy Stéphan will lead France in his absence; the game in Foxborough, Massachusetts, will decide the Group I winner with both teams on six points and already through to the knockout round, according to Yahoo Sports.
