Oman’s foreign minister said Muscat would comply with international law and ensure free and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Jin10, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr met in Muscat on the evening of June 22 with a visiting delegation led by Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. After the meeting, Badr said on social media that the two sides held constructive discussions focused on Strait of Hormuz-related provisions in a recent U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding.
Badr added that Oman reaffirmed it would uphold international law and guarantee free and secure transit through the strait.
Separately, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council issued a statement on June 18 saying that, within 60 days, no fees would be charged for merchant ships applying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement said that under Article 5 of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, merchant ships seeking to transit the strait must submit an application to the Persian Gulf Strait Administration.
It said that during the 60-day period, applicants would not need to pay any fees, and that the Iranian government would cover those costs.
