ByteDance has released Doubao 2.1Pro, the latest flagship version of its Doubao large language model, at the 2026 Volcano Engine Force conference.
According to ChainCatcher, Volcano Engine President Tan Dai said the model made advances in four areas: code delivery, long-horizon agent tasks, multimodal understanding, and stable enterprise-grade operation, aiming to better handle complex corporate R&D workloads.
ByteDance CEO Liang Rubo said the company will focus on improving large-model capabilities and continue investing in its MaaS (Model-as-a-Service) business.
The report said ByteDance’s AI strategy is shifting toward enterprise services. Doubao’s average daily token usage has reached 180 trillion, up more than 1,500 times since its launch and more than 10 times over the past year. However, the company has adjusted resource allocation amid limits in consumer monetization and high operating costs, with daily compute expenses reaching tens of millions of yuan while daily revenue is under 1 million yuan.
Separately, the enterprise-focused video generation model Seedance has shown commercialization potential, with annual recurring revenue reported at $2 billion, which the report said largely offsets Doubao’s compute costs. The report added that a new Seedance version will introduce a 3D white-model preview feature.
