Prices for high-purity quartz sand used in optical fiber have climbed to a mainstream range of RMB 48,000 to RMB 55,000 per ton, driven by tighter supply across the fiber-optic industry chain amid AI data center and computing-network construction, according to 36Kr. Industry data cited in the report said high-end products with purity above 6N are in particularly short supply, while domestic self-sufficiency remains insufficient, worsening the supply-demand imbalance. The recent price increases were attributed to demand transmission from a surge in downstream optical-fiber demand.
