Turkish Football Federation president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu said coach Vincenzo Montella would not resign or be fired after Turkiye’s 2026 World Cup campaign unraveled, saying he “never gave him a chance” to discuss stepping down. Turkiye lost 2-0 to Australia and then 1-0 to Paraguay despite Paraguay playing the entire second half with 10 men, leaving the final group match against the USA meaningless as Turkiye will be eliminated, according to Yahoo Sports. Montella, who took the job in September 2023 and recently signed a contract through July 2028, has a record of 20 wins, five draws and 10 losses with the national team.
