South East Water has appointed John Halsall as chief executive with immediate effect after previous boss David Hinton resigned, according to BBC. The company said Halsall, who has worked at Thames Water, South West Water and Network Rail, will take over subject to regulatory approval.
SEW has faced criticism over repeated water supply failures in Kent and Sussex, and Ofwat has proposed fining the firm £22m over issues affecting 286,000 people between 2020 and 2023. Halsall said his priorities include responding to customers’ immediate concerns and delivering the company’s largest-ever investment programme of £2.1bn. SEW’s annual report shows £1.3bn of debt, and it raised prices by an average of 7% from April, taking the average yearly bill to £324.
