The Supreme Authority of Islam in Uzbekistan has retracted a fatwa it issued on June 3, which held that cryptocurrency transactions were not allowed. The statement said that cryptocurrency transactions violated Sharia law, but due to negligence, the statement was erroneously posted on social media. In response, the fatwa center issued a statement titled "Correction and Apology". The statement disclosed that the fatwa center Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazar and his deputies are currently on a holy pilgrimage.
The statement further elaborated: "The scientific research related to this fatwa project has not been completed, and we are conducting extensive research on contemporary issues. We apologize and assure you that the scientific research related to this fatwa will be completed and revisited in due course."
At first, the Fatwa Center had argued that the pricing volatility and gambling associations of cryptocurrencies conflicted with Sharia law.
