Venture capital funds have invested $12.3 billion into defense technology startups since the start of 2026, nearly double the amount raised over the same stretch last year. According to BeInCrypto, the Financial Times said the total already exceeds the $9.95 billion the sector attracted across all of 2025, reflecting rising demand for drones, autonomous vessels and battlefield AI amid conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. PitchBook ranked Gaingels, Alumni Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz among the most active investors in the first quarter.
In contrast, Galaxy Research said VCs deployed about $4 billion across 355 crypto deals in the first quarter, a 50% drop from the prior quarter, while crypto-focused funds raised about $1.1 billion across eight vehicles.
