Room, a 37-year-old Miami FC keeper, matched the World Cup single-game saves mark set by USA goalkeeper Tim Howard against Belgium in 2014, while keeping a clean sheet for Dick Advocaat’s side. Ecuador had 27 attempts and will need to beat group winners Germany in their final match to reach the knockout stages after losing to Ivory Coast in their opener; Curaçao, who lost 7-1 to Germany in their first game, can still qualify if they beat Ivory Coast next.
