Texas has about 6.5 gigawatts of data center capacity under construction as Governor Greg Abbott directed the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to shift more grid-related costs toward data center operators.

According to NS3.AI, the directive asks the agencies to reduce residential transmission costs by the end of July and to deliver a joint memo by July 17.

The report said Bitcoin miners could benefit if Texas adopts policies that reward flexible electricity demand.
