Algorand unveils roadmap to achieve quantum resistance by 2028

The Algorand Foundation unveiled a roadmap to make the Algorand blockchain quantum-resistant by the end of next year, according to CoinDesk, outlining upgrades starting in 2026 including post-quantum accounts, multisignature wallets and staking support. Later phases target deeper protocol components as the network prepares for a potential “Q-Day,” when quantum computers could break today’s elliptic curve cryptography. The foundation said the plan builds on work begun in 2022 and aims for broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027, ahead of NIST’s retirement of some legacy standards and three years before a U.S. National Security Agency timeline for national security systems.
