French police arrested four suspects in Marseille and nearby areas over an attempted kidnapping-style robbery linked to cryptocurrency assets.
According to ChainCatcher, citing Laprovence, the incident occurred at about 3:00 AM on June 13, 2026, when suspects broke into a residence in Marseille’s 13th arrondissement and tried to seize crypto-related assets by taking two women hostage.
A nearby family was awakened by noise and immediately alerted police, prompting the suspects to flee. Investigators said the suspects left behind a vehicle license plate as a key lead.
Police said crypto-related kidnappings and extortion cases have been rising in France, with about 70 such incidents recorded since the start of 2026. Authorities added that these crimes often target crypto holders and their family members and tend to be highly targeted and violent.
