U.S. President Donald Trump and senior U.S. officials met with leading artificial intelligence executives during the G7 summit in France to discuss a U.S.-led effort to coordinate global AI standards.

According to Jin10, AXIOS reported that U.S. Secretary of State Rubio, Treasury Secretary Bessent, and Commerce Secretary Lutnick joined other national leaders for a working lunch focused on AI and the digital era.

Industry participants included OpenAI founder Sam Altman, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Scale AI founder and CEO Alexandr Wang, and Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch.

After the meeting, OpenAI’s head of global affairs, Chris Lehane, said participants discussed the possibility of establishing a global AI standards forum. Lehane said a consensus was forming between governments and AI labs to create a platform for democratic countries to collaborate and explore ways to develop AI safety standards.

Lehane added that the United States would lead the process, saying the ability to set standards was a way to ensure continued access to frontier models.
