U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday after the G7 summit in France that he was defending an agreement between the United States and Iran and did not want the conflict in the Middle East to continue and trigger an economic disaster.

According to Odaily, speaking at the lakeside resort of Evian-les-Bains in France, Trump said the outcome he least wanted to see was an economic disaster, adding that such a scenario was possible if the conflict continued.

Trump also said he did not want to become another Herbert Hoover. Hoover was serving as U.S. president when the U.S. stock market crashed in October 1929, an event that wiped out billions of dollars in wealth and later led to the economic crisis known as the Great Depression.
