Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on the 13th that any possible understanding between Iran and the United States would only be intended to help both sides continue dialogue, rather than serve as a final agreement. According to Odaily, Baghaei said unfreezing Iran’s frozen assets would be an indispensable part of any such understanding.
Citing the Iranian Students News Agency, Baghaei made the remarks during a meeting with media professionals. He said Iran’s current focus is ending fighting on all fronts and reducing regional tensions, and that it is not discussing details of the nuclear issue at this stage.
Baghaei said the only way to achieve regional security is to end the presence of foreign military forces in the region.
He reiterated that the issue of unfreezing Iranian assets is a key component of any understanding and would not be excluded. He added that topics currently under discussion also include ending U.S. hostile actions against Iranian vessels and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei said Iran will proceed with negotiations and diplomatic efforts with maximum caution while remaining vigilant based on past experience. He added that if the other side refuses to fulfill its obligations, Iran can take countermeasures.
