Juan Tacuri, a Florida man, faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a wire fraud scheme involving Forcount, a crypto Ponzi scheme based in Brazil that defrauded Spanish-speaking investors around the world of about $8.40 million. Mr. Tacuri pleaded guilty in the Southern District of New York and agreed to return nearly $4 million and real estate to his victims.
Tacuri and associates falsely claimed that Forcount would double its investment in six months, but in reality they were simply repaying early investors with new investors' money and extravagant spending. In 2022, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil lawsuit against Tacuri and three other members. This year, Tacuri will be sentenced by District Judge Analisa Torres.
