World Cup Day Two: USA Win 4-1 as Canada Claim Historic Draw

The United States made a flying start on Matchday 2 of the 2026 World Cup with a commanding 4-1 win over Paraguay, while Canada fought back to earn a historic draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In Group B, Canada faced Bosnia and Herzegovina in a tense contest. Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead in the 21st minute when Jovo Lukić headed home from a corner, putting Canada under early pressure.
However, Canada responded after the break through substitute Cyle Larin, who made an instant impact by scoring just 121 seconds after coming on. His goal brought Canada level at 1-1 and secured a memorable result for the co-host.
The draw marked Canada’s first-ever point at a FIFA World Cup, coming 40 years after their tournament debut. It also ended a run of defeats across their previous World Cup matches.
In Group D, the United States impressed with a strong attacking display against Paraguay. The co-host went ahead in the seventh minute when a Weston McKennie pass deflected off Damian Bobadilla and into the net for an own goal.
Folarin Balogun then struck twice before half-time to give the USA a 3-0 lead at the break. Paraguay pulled one back in the second half through Mauricio, but Giovanni Reyna sealed the win in stoppage time to complete a 4-1 victory.
It was a landmark result for the United States, who scored four goals in a World Cup match for the first time. The win also matched their biggest margin of victory in the competition, equalling their three-goal wins over Belgium and Paraguay 96 years ago.
