Blockstream CEO Adam Back rejected viral claims that the Bitcoin (BTC) network will “fire the miners” in August 2026, saying developer Luke Dashjr is preparing a separate spin-off coin with different mining rules. The claim spread on X this week, according to BeInCrypto, amid debate over BIP-110, a proposal tied to an early August 2026 deadline that would limit non-financial data on Bitcoin but has little miner and node support. Back compared the effort to Bitcoin Gold (BTG), warning a copy chain would lack Bitcoin’s mining security.
