Bitcoin.com co-founder Roger Ver (Bitcoin Jesus) has been granted bail by a Spanish court. Roger Ver paid 150,000 euros ($163,000) bail on the condition that he remain in Spain and surrender his passport. Ver must also appear in court every two days. Roger Ver will be extradited to the United States on tax fraud charges.
According to the Department of Justice, Ver failed to report capital gains or taxes on his holdings of bitcoin, which he began buying in 2011 and sold in 2017 for about 240 million euros, allegedly underpaying at least $48 million in taxes as a result. Ver renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2014 to become a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis, but still needs to file U.S. tax returns on certain asset gains.
