Analyst Torbjorn Soltvedt said a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains under pressure as low-intensity conflict continues and has escalated into more intense exchanges in recent days. According to Odaily, negotiations are still ongoing, but Soltvedt said both sides want to negotiate from a position of strength.

Soltvedt said the U.S. side believes it can increase pressure on Iran and that waiting could improve its leverage. He added that Iran believes blocking the Strait of Hormuz could choke the global economy and allow it to hold out for a better agreement, a strategy he said has already shown results as many countries have felt economic shocks.

Soltvedt warned that U.S. inflation is reaching a three-year high and said that without a formal agreement, the current “highly unstable environment” could collapse at any time.
