Osaka Exchange President Akira Tagaya said the exchange plans to introduce Bitcoin futures in 2028 to meet institutional demand for hedging risks tied to Bitcoin ETF investments. According to ChainCatcher, Tagaya made the remarks in an interview cited by Nikkei.
The Osaka Exchange is part of Japan Exchange Group.
Separately, Japan’s Financial Services Agency plans to revise the Cabinet Office ordinance for the Investment Trust Act before 2028 to classify crypto assets as “specified assets,” the report said. The change would allow asset management firms to create investment trusts that include cryptocurrencies.
