S&P said Hong Kong’s insurance sector is seeing relatively limited direct impact from recent regulatory measures as mainland China tightens oversight of mainland residents’ overseas investments. according to Ming Pao, S&P said if regulators further step up scrutiny of mainland clients’ cross-border activities—such as additional checks on sources of funds or marketing activities—insurers’ compliance requirements could rise and put pressure on premium sales driven by mainland visitors to Hong Kong.
