The United Nations Development Programme recently announced the creation of a Blockchain Advisory Group to explore how blockchain technology could be used to improve public systems and development governance.
According to ChainCatcher, the group was unveiled during Proof of Talk 2026 in Paris, and its first meeting was chaired by UNDP Associate Administrator Xu Haoliang.
The initial session focused on inclusive finance and digital finance, discussing obstacles such as fragmented payment systems, limited access to digital identity, insufficient interoperability, and institutional readiness. Participants also assessed how blockchain could complement existing digital public infrastructure to improve financial access, efficiency, and transparency.
UNDP said the Blockchain Advisory Group plans to meet twice a year and will cover topics including digital governance and public trust, legal identity and inclusive societies, digital financial services, climate and traceable accountability, and digital labor and the future of work.
