A New York judge paused a lawsuit seeking ownership of 39,069 dormant Bitcoin (BTC) wallets, blocking a quick win for anonymous plaintiffs ahead of a July 14 hearing. According to BeInCrypto, Justice Kathy J. King signed the stay on June 4 after New York lawyer and bitcoin holder Ian R. Cohen moved to file an amicus brief opposing the case. The plaintiffs, led by an anonymous “Noah Doe” and two companies, cite New York’s lost-and-found law; Cohen argues it applies to physical property and notes a 2022 law directing unclaimed crypto to the state. Plaintiffs must respond by July 7.
