After the April 2024 halving, according to Glassnode, the number of active Bitcoin addresses fell sharply due to soaring transaction fees and network congestion. This increase in fees was due in part to the emergence of new protocols such as Runes, which affected the utility of Bitcoin in daily transactions, leading to a significant drop in network activity. Although the number of active addresses has fallen to its lowest point since 2019, Bitcoin has returned to near all-time highs.
