Last week, when an ad appeared on social media featuring videos of Lee Hsien Loong peddling cryptocurrency investments with guaranteed returns for a company called Quantum AI, Lee said the videos were deepfakes, superimposing fake audio on a video of a speech he gave earlier this year.
According to a report by verification firm Sumsub, a whopping 88% of deepfake cases in 2023 will occur in the cryptocurrency industry. Between 2022 and 2023, global deepfake incidents will surge tenfold, with North America and Asia Pacific topping the list.
