The Federal Reserve's Williams said it does not know when to cut interest rates and will depend on the performance of the data.
There is ample evidence that monetary policy is restrictive; PCE inflation is expected to fall back to 2.5% in 2024 and close to 2% in 2025; US inflation is expected to resume slowing in the second half of 2024; GDP growth is expected to be 2% -2.5% in 2024, with unemployment around 4%; recent data do not signal a break in the downward inflation trend.
