In Quarter 1, 2024, two funds owned by asset manager BlackRock - the BlackRock Strategic Earnings Opportunity Fund and the BlackRock Strategic Global Bond Fund - invested in Bitcoin through the company's spot Bitcoin ETF, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). They bought $3.60 million and $486,000 of IBIT shares, respectively.
Rick Rieder, BlackRock's global chief investment officer for fixed income, manages the two funds and said that hundreds of traditional financial firms bought shares in the spot bitcoin ETF in Quarter 1. BlackRock also includes the spot bitcoin ETF in its Global Allocation Fund (MALOX), an investment vehicle favored by ordinary and passive investors.
