US stocks close: NVIDIA's market value is only 100 billion dollars short of Apple

U.S. stocks closed Tuesday, with the Dow initially closing down 216 points or 0.55 percent, the S & P 500 edged up, and the Nasdaq rose 0.59 percent to a new closing high. Apple (AAPL. O) edged up and NVIDIA (NVDA. O) rose 6.98 percent, with the former closing just $100 billion above the latter. Pinduoduo (PDD. O) fell 5 percent. The Nasdaq China Golden Dragon index closed up 0.45 percent, with JD.com (JD. O) and Alibaba (BABA. N) both falling in the 1 percent line.
