Caltech researchers have proposed a new design for a functional quantum computer that could significantly reduce the number of qubits required. According to NS3.AI, the researchers suggest that a quantum computer could be built with 10,000 to 20,000 qubits, rather than the millions previously thought necessary. The proposed neutral-atom error-correction architecture could encode each logical qubit using as few as five physical qubits, potentially making quantum computing more feasible and efficient.
