Indian citizen pleads guilty to making $37 million from fake Coinbase website or gets 20 years in prison

Chirag Tomar, an Indian citizen, has pleaded guilty to "federal charges of stealing more than $37 million by defrauding the Coinbase website," the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina announced this week, pleading guilty to wire fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Chirag Tomar and his associates were arrested at the Atlanta airport on Dec. 20 while entering the United States after devising a fake Coinbase Pro website to trick users into entering login credentials and two-factor authentication codes. He remains in federal custody.
