Solana plans to release the full version of the Firedancer upgrade in 2025 and launch "lite" before then, said Kuleen Nimkar, head of DePIN at the Solana Foundation. The upgrade is aimed at improving the overall reliability and scalability of Solana as the network activity for decentralized infrastructure protocols continues to grow. "We are seeing a large number of emerging deep projects doing everything," Kuleen said of the DePIN event at DEFICON on May 23. DePIN, or decentralized physical infrastructure network, refers to the use of blockchain to manage and operate physical infrastructure systems.
