Republican lawmakers on the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee have announced that the House will vote on legislation to clarify the role of financial regulators with respect to digital assets sometime this week.
House Republicans said in a May 20 post that the full House would vote "this week" on the 21st Century Financial Innovation and Technology (FIT21) Act, giving it a chance to become law. The legislation would clarify how the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulate digital assets.
Since lawmakers passed FIT21 in the House Financial Services Committee in July 2023, there has been little progress on the bill. In May, committee chairperson Patrick McHenry said the House Rules Committee would likely approve the bill for a full House vote.
The US House of Representatives will vote on the FIT21 bill by the end of this week
