According to previous historical experience, the fate of the Ethereum Spot ETF could be decided by a vote by SEC Chairperson Gary Gensler this week.
In January, approval of the Bitcoin Spot ETF was handled by a panel of five commissioners. Two crypto-friendly commissioners, Hester Pierce and Mark Uyeda, voted to approve the ETF, while commissioners Caroline Crenshaw and Jaime Lizárraga voted against it. Gensler ultimately also voted in favor, and many in the industry believe his vote ultimately ensured approval of the spot Bitcoin ETF. The ETF was approved by a 3-2 vote on January 10, 2024.
