Caixin: Hong Kong becomes the first region outside the Chinese mainland where all local residents can open e-CNY wallets

According to Caixin, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has announced on May 17, 2024 that the pilot of digital RMB (e-CNY) in Hong Kong will be expanded to all Hong Kong citizens from now on. Users can register and open with a Hong Kong mobile phone number, which can not only be used in Hong Kong, but also cross-border transfer to merchants that support e-CNY in mainland China without real names. Digital RMB is currently being piloted in 26 regions in 17 provinces and cities in the mainland. Hong Kong has become the first region where all local residents outside the Chinese mainland can open e-CNY wallets.
