The US Treasury released its 2024 National Strategy to Combat Terrorism and Other Illicit Financing on Thursday, outlining priorities to combat illicit financing. The Treasury highlighted its ongoing work around cryptocurrencies, including sanctions against certain trading platforms and groups such as Bitzlato and Lazarus, a settlement with Binance, and warnings about hog slaughter scams.
According to the report, the four priorities of the US Treasury are closing the gap in anti-money laundering regulations, supporting more effective and risk-centric frameworks, improving the efficiency of law enforcement agencies, and leveraging technological innovation. And updating the existing cryptocurrency regulatory framework will support these priorities.
