The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) today issued a circular allowing the Securities Supervision Commission to authorize exchange-traded funds (ETFs) using a linked fund structure to invest in overseas-listed ETFs from different markets, including active ETFs, subject to certain conditions.
Ms Choi Fung-yee, Executive Director, Investment Products Division, Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission, said that further simplification of the requirements applicable to linked ETFs would provide cost savings and flexibility to ETF issuers and broaden investment options for investors, while ensuring that an appropriate level of investor protection was maintained. This would also enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness in attracting overseas ETFs and strengthen its position as a preeminent asset management hub.
