Lawyers for former FTX executive Ryan Salame, who pleaded guilty last September to conspiracy to commit illegal political contributions and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transfer business, asked the court for leniency and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, according to a sentencing memorandum filed on Tuesday. Ryan Salame managed telegraphic transfer deposits and fiat exchange for FTX clients during his time at FTX and Alameda, used Alameda funds for political contributions, and led charitable activities in the Bahamas.
In the filing, his lawyers argued that Salame's role in the shuttered company was less at the heart of the fraud and more operational. They also cited Salame's cooperation with the authorities, genuine remorse, efforts to address substance abuse, and the significant personal and financial losses he suffered as a result of the collapse of the exchange.
